Thin Client Solutions

Thin Client is an architecture that enables access to applications and data from a centralised server, rather than storing and processing on local devices.

Thin Client architecture offers some significant advantages over a conventional "Thick Client" architecture:

  • Manageability: Thin Clients are easier to manage than traditional desktop computers, since updates and upgrades can be performed centrally. This saves time and resources and reduces the burden on IT staff.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Thin Clients are less expensive to purchase and maintain than traditional desktop computers since they require less powerful hardware. It is also possible to repurpose low end or legacy hardware that might otherwise not be suitable for modern operating systems.
  • Energy efficiency: Thin Clients require less power than traditional desktop computers, which reduces energy costs and makes them a more environmentally-friendly option.

Our Thin Client Solutions can be configured as diskless workstations that download and boot their operating system from a central location (Linux only). This configuration is ideal for organisations such as education or training institutes that need to provide a cost effective and consistent desktop image to many students on low end hardware.

Alternatively, a Thin Client can boot from a lightweight local image that then accesses applications and data remotely.

The diagram provides a simplified overview of a Thin Client architecture utilising our cloud services. However, the the image server can also be located locally in your office.
